CABRACH MONUMENTAL INSCRIPTIONS

In memory of Ebenezer Bain, Cattle Dealer, Powneed, Cabrach. Who died there on 26th Sept. 1882, aged 78 years, and William Bain, Farmer, Powneed. Who died there on 29th March 1897, aged 89 years. Their three brothers Peter Bain, died 13th Aug. 1826, aged 22 years. John Bain, died 20th May 1833, aged 37 years, and Alexander Bain died 27th Nov. 1838, aged 38 years. Sacred to the Memory of Helen Bain, who died at Powneed, 1st Jan. 1887, aged 47, also Maggie Innes, died 13th Mar. 1896, aged 33. Their parents William Bain, Farmer, Powneed, died 6th Oct. 1834, aged 78 years and Beatrix Gordon his wife, died 22nd Feb. 1861, aged 97 years.

  In the memory of William Bain, late farmer, Powneed, died in Oct 1851, aged 78, also his two sons, John, died may 1833, aged 37. Peter, died 13 Aug. 1826, aged 22. And his son Alexander, died 27 Nov. 1838. Likewise his wife Beatrix Gordon, died 22 Feb. 1861, aged 97.

  In Memory of Jean Forbes, spouse to John Gordon, farmer in Lay of Drum, who died 15 May 1825, aged 40 years. And the said John Gordon, who died 23rd April 1871, aged 82 years.

  In memory of Adam Gordon farmer Pyke, who died 11^th March 1770, aged 63 years. And his daughter Rachel Gordon who died 2^nd Nov. 1769, aged 18 years. Also their son James Gordon, farmer Bank, who died 1^st Nov. 1836, aged 83 years. Also his son John Gordon, farmer Oldtown, who died 15^th July 1817, aged 86 years.

  In memory of Adam Gordon who died at Pyke, Cabrach, 18^th June 1845, aged 84 years. And his wife Charlotte Hay, who died 19^th Jan. 1847, aged 89 years. Also their daughter Jean Gordon and their sons John, James & Robert. The erector of this stone Adam Gordon, died at Pyke, 12^th Oct. 1887, aged 78 years. Alexander Gordon, died 13^th Dec. 1888, aged 85 Years. The said Charlotte Gordon, died 12^th May 1901, aged 84 years.

  In loving memory of Alexander Gordon, farmer, Auchmair, Cabrach who died 18^th March 1922, aged 70 yrs. And of his wife Ellenor Souter who died 9^th October 1941, aged 88yrs.

 Sacred to the memory of Alexander Gordon who died in Gauch, 14th February 1922, aged 85 years, and his wife Helen Aird died at Gadiedale, Premnay, 1st December 1929, aged 84 years. Also his father Alexander Gordon died at Gauch, 2nd July 1878, aged 93 years and his mother Elizabeth McDonald died at Gauch, 31st March 1890, aged 90 years. Also their daughter Jean died 8th June 1968, aged 92 years.

  In memory of Alexander Gordon, sometime in Fichlie, Towie, who died 19 Dec. 1843, aged 84. Also his spouse Elspet Gordon, who died 18th June 1822, aged 66. Also two of their family who died in infancy. Done by their surviving sons Alex., John, Peter, James & William Gordons

  In loivng memory of Beatrix Gordon, wife of William Smith, died Auld Auchindoir, Lumsden, 16 Mar.1930, aged 63. Their daughter Helen, died Bracklach, 2 Sept.1905, aged 10. Above William Smith died Cairneyhillock, Lhanbryde 17 Oct.1950, aged 91

  Erected by George Gordon, farmer Bracklach.  In memory of his beloved wife Mary Stuart who died 2^nd October 1878. Aged 70 yrs. The said George Gordon, died 10^th May 1884, aged 75 yrs. Also their son George of Bracklach & Tillyminnate, who died 16^th March 1916, aged 69 yrs. Of his wife Helen McCrombie, who died at Tillyminnate, 25^th May 1937, aged 76 yrs and of William McCrombie Gordon, who died at Langlands, 7^th Jan. 1948, aged 61 yrs and of  George Gordonwho died at Bracklach, Cabrach, 9^th May 1956, aged 72 yrs.

  In loving memory of George Gordon,JP. Farmer Tillyminnate, Gartly and Bracklach, Cabrach who died at Tillyminnate March 16^h 1916.

  In the memory of Helen Gordon, died Rhinturk, Cabrach, 19 Aug, 1911, aged 52, her husband John Taylor, died there, 16 Dec. 1925, aged 69. Their son John Taylor, died Keith, 21 July 1973, aged 73.

  Erected by Isabella Gordon in memory of my husband Alexander Kellas  died Netherton, Glenlivet 30 June 1900, aged 72. Said  Isabella Gordon wife of Alexander Kellas  died Dufftown 26 Aug.1911, aged 77. Also her daughter Margaret G. Kellas  died Dufftown 18 Dec.1884, aged 16, her son Alexander G. Kellas died Western Australia 31 Jan.1895, aged 31.

  The Rev, James Gordon AM. Minister of Cabrach for 23 years, died 29^th Dec. 1849, aged 65 years.

 Erected by Jane Gordan in loving  memory of her husband James Kellas farmer in Largue died 9 Jan.1912, aged 69. Also of our son James died in infancy. Above Jane Gordon died 10 Feb.1935, aged 93. Their son James died Aldivalloch 12 Feb.1966, aged -

Also of the children John, Elspet & Jean who died young. Also their son William who died June 27th 1800, aged 16 years. Also his daughters Ann & Elizabeth who died young.

  In memory of the late John Gordon farmer, Oldtown, Cabrach who died 20^th March 1848, aged 33 years and also of his mother Elizabeth Scott who died 17^th January 1850, aged 65 years.

  In loving memory. John Gordon, farmer Kirkton who died March 15th 1894, aged 82 years. Also his two sisters. Isabella Gordon, who died Sept. 5th 1881, aged 78 years. Helen Gordon, who died dec. 7th 1896, aged 86 years.

  In memory of John Gordon, farmer in Aldavalloch who died 11 September 1836, aged 50 years and of Jane Walker, his wife, who died 25^th February 1861, aged 73 years. Also of Alexander Gordon, late farmer in Aldivalloch, who died 11^th December 1875, aged 55 years. Also of Helen Gordon, who died at Huntly 16^th january 1897, aged 77.

Also his Granddaughter Jean McDonald died 22 Aug 1925, aged 27 years. Also of his daughter Jane Gordon died at Dykeside, 15^th May 1935, aged 85. Also of their Great Grandson Pte Peter K. Gordon RA. MC. Died at Baracwawath SA, 1 June 1944, aged 28. Granddaughter Isabella K. Gordon died 27^th March 1974, aged 81.

Also of Isabel Scott wife of the above said John Gordon who died in 1818, aged 71 years. Also of Helen Lindsay wife of the above said Peter Gordon farmer in Rickmalane, who died 25th February 1852, aged 69 years. Also of their son Charles Gordon who died 4th June 1838, aged 20 years. Also the above Peter Gordon who died June 20th 1874, aged 94 years.

Also his son William Gordon, who died Feb, 10th 1899, aged 78 yrs, and his wife Elizabeth McCombie, who died at Auchmair, March 6th 1922, aged 92 yrs.

Also their son James who died at North Desky, Lumsden, on the 15th Dec. 1933, aged 63 years. Also of their son Peter who died at Forresterhill, Aberdeen, 7th June 1941, aged 68 years. Also their grand-daughter Isabella Ann Ellis who died at Whitehillock, Cabrach, 21st Aug. 1958, aged 78 years.

  Erected in memory of Alexander Kellas died Pownead (sic) Cabrach 29 Sept.1872 aged 83, his wife Helen Bain (no dates given) aged 83. Also their family John died 1834 aged 4, Helen died 1835 aged 5, Alexander died 1835 aged 9, John died 1849 aged 4, Alexander died 1858 aged 19, James died 1859 aged 21, Ebenezer died 1860 aged 30, Beatrice died 1868 aged 40, Ann died 1893 aged 60, William died 1917 aged 73

  Erected by Alexander Kellas Upper Ardwell in memory of his wife Christian Sheed died 24 Mar.1863, aged 63 and 3 of his sons John died 3 Oct.1851, aged 26, Hugh died l0 Oct.1850, aged 15 & James died on the passage to India in Oct.1859, aged 22.

  Erected in memory of Hugh Kellas farmer died Torniechelt 25 Apr.1875, aged 73, his wife Isabella Grant died 25 Jan.1877, aged 72.

  In memory of James Kellas merchant in Crofthead died 20 June 1858 aged 54, his wife MARY STUART died 18 Jan.1908 aged 78. Her 2nd husband James Mclean died 7 Apr 1910 aged 71. Also of John Kellas son of above James Kellas & Mary Stuart died Crofthead 5 Jan.1917? aged 80.

  Here lie the remains of John Kellas died Torneychelt 16 Nov.1859, aged 67 and of his wife Janet Horn died 10 Jan.1837, aged 41. Their two sons and daughter James, Hugh & Isabella died in infancy. Also their son John Kellas died Torneychelt 31Mar.1905, aged 69, his wife Margaret McDonald died 8 May 1926, aged 86. Also James Roy son of the said Margaret McDonald died 24 Feb.1935, aged 72. This small tribute was raised as a token of sincere respect by two of the surviving family Ann & Helen Kellas in 1864.

  Erected by John Kellas farmer Tornychelt ...... in Fife Keith in memory of his wife Jane Sheed died 20 Apr 1865 aged 21. Also his 2nd wife Jane Murray died 1 Jan.1898 aged 48. Said John Kellas died 31 Aug.1912 aged 75.

Here also is buried Helen Watt beloved wife of John Sheed in Aldunie, who died 10th Jan. 1889, aged 58. The said John Sheed, Farmer in Aldunie and the son of the above James Sheed and wife Ann Kellas, who died 2nd Dec. 1889, aged 72 years.
